‘Chaise Visioning’
A space between
Gaston Bachelard’s vision of ‘the daydreamer’ and a space to daydream forms the basis for the messages I explore within my work. ‘The house shelters daydreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.’ (Bachelard, G.,1958). I create a space that positions itself between the private and the public, that references the private domestic sphere within the public sphere, highlighting the impact of public exposure and environmental influences on perception and interpretation.
Taking inspiration from a Chaise Lounge and drawing upon the aesthetics of mid-century furniture design. Chaise brings domestic familiarity to a public space. Addressing the awkwardness of interaction and the distortion of perception within the public sphere through dysfunctional design.
